Indoor Nets

Its time to dust off the Christmas cobwebs and begin to get ready for the 2010 outdoor season.

Pre-season nets have been arranged for Thursday nights 8.30-9.30pm down at a new venue, The Sports Hall at The Becket School on Wilford Lane, Wilford (details below).

Nets start on Thursday 4th February.

Thanks to Phil Dearden for helping to arrange the nets. Directions are as follows http://www.becket.notts.sch.uk/contact.html#how

We'll have the Sports Hall to ourselves, which will normally mean 2 nets, though we have the option to use whole hall for some fielding practice or even the odd indoor game if people fancy it.

Lets make a real effort to fill both nets and have a regular 10-12 guys down every week. 3 quid a man. If you're lucky, you might even witness Drurs turn out, though I'm told his back is still thawing out after the big freeze........

Hope to see you all there.

Under 11s Back in Action

The Under 11's 6 a-side squad returned to Bingham to face Kimberley and West Bridgfordians.
A paintballing party accounted for Blacklock, Cox and Phoenix with Garlick also unavailable.

The U13s younger brothers Alex Newell and Oscar Brown were on debut as were Boyle and Rock to join Devenney and Hefter. All six were fresh from Keyworth United duties. What a day - football in the morning, cricket in the afternoon!

To open was a match against Kimberley. Hefter won an important toss with scenes reminiscent of last years first XI. Batting was elected with only 3 of the 6 present as 2 o clock ticked by.

Rock showed some nice touches with runs hard to come by, before departing. Devenney worked the ball tidily off his pads before falling to a tremendous diving catch for 8. Hefter failed to add to the score pushing for quick runs. Boyle and Newell benefitted from some wayward bowling and some good running before Boyle was run out. Newell finished on 8 not out with Brown. 53-4.

Straws were going to be drawn for keeper duties but Brown took one for the team and padded up as Rocket Rendu looked on from the inflatables, with Aoife, at a party.

Hefter and Rock only conceded 4 a piece for a great start. Tremendous work all round saw Devenney run out the opener and Rock took a great caught and bowled in the penultimate over. Kimberley were left needing 8 off the last over.

With wickets in hand Kimberley hit out but Hefter kept composure. With 2 required off 2 the ball was hit forcefully back towards the non strikers end. Three fielders expected each other to get it and the ball rolled agonisingly to the back board for four, as Kimberley finished on 56-2 with a ball to spare. A brilliant effort, so close.

West Brigford v Notts and Arnold was the all star fixture for the afternoon and didn't disappoint with terrific technique in every aspect.

West Bridgfordians were the final fixture for Keyworth. Hefter made it two out of two correct calls, and elected to field, with Devenney taking the gloves. Good bowling through out meant the free scoring Bridgford team had to work hard for the runs but showed excellent experience. Boyle had a super penultimate over, creating a run out and Newell took a wicket in the final over with Boyle safe as houses. 82-2

Devenney and Hefter opened solidly with the ball finding the middle. They worked it round sharply but were unsure between the wicket, before throwing caution to the wind and hitting full throttle.

Devenney departed for 15 and was shortly followed by Rock who was run out, just short of the crease. Boyle couldn't add to the tally as Newell accompanied Hefter for the final few overs. 36 were required off the last 6 balls. Hefter finished excellently on 26* as the innings concluded on 66-3.

Another great afternoon and plenty of promise for the upcoming season.

Annual General Meeting - Take 3

KCC's Annual Meeting will now take place on Friday 22nd January at the Willow Tree pub in West Bridgford at 7.30pm.

We have booked the function room at the pub so that this can be more of a social event.

Please don't expect lots of boring speeches about what happened in 2009. This is more about what we do for 2010, and even for our bi-centenary in 2015. It's your chance to raise ideas about the Club.

Hope to see you all there.

First Win of the Decade

A KCC under 11's side tasted the first action of the new decade in the Bingham indoor tournament. It involves 10 teams each playing each other with the competiton running through to the end of March.

Bingham leisure centre hosted Keyworth, Radcliffe Ravenclaw, Notts & Arnold and Bingham Rockets during week 1 - with teams playing 2 games each.

Innings were 7 overs per side with 2 runs scored for crossing once and a bonus for hitting one of the side walls, likewise behind the keeper. A hefty straight blow would warrant a 4 or 6 depending on the bounce. You could be caught of the side walls and penalised for balls pitched wide of the strip. And if you're out you're out!

Radcliffe won the toss and elected to bat as Devenney, Blacklock, Cox, Phoenix, Hefter and Garlick took to the field with Blacklock being entrusted to keep wicket. Some lusty blows, deft shots and wide deliveries saw the experienced Radcliffe side amass 80-3. Some good fielding saw Blacklock remove the bails 3 times.

Keyworth played well in return reaching 65 for the loss of only one wicket. Devenney (27*) retired leaving Cox and Garlick to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Match 2 saw Keyworth face Bingham and bat first, with the order reversed. Phoenix went early trying for the big 6 but couldn't quite clear the bowlers outstretched arm. Blacklock and Hefter took time to get on the right wavelength - the highlight: Blacklock passing Hefter who stayed firm in his crease, before being sent back and remarkably making it! Blacklock (26*) retired with Hefter (23) falling just - short pushing on in the last over. Some inconsistent bowling left Keyworth on 93-2

Cox took the gloves as Blacklock opened up, and struck with his first delivery - Devenney taking a spectacular one handed stretching catch over his head. Great line and length meant the score was never likely to be troubled. Cox took an excellent diving catch behind the stumps off Phoenix, with Hefter and the returning Blacklock gaining the last wicket of the day as Bingham finished on 42-4.

A well deserved victory for the boys who grew in confidence and adapted very well to the techniques of backing up, tip and run and working the ball neatly behind square.

A great start.
