First Win of the Decade

A KCC under 11's side tasted the first action of the new decade in the Bingham indoor tournament. It involves 10 teams each playing each other with the competiton running through to the end of March.

Bingham leisure centre hosted Keyworth, Radcliffe Ravenclaw, Notts & Arnold and Bingham Rockets during week 1 - with teams playing 2 games each.

Innings were 7 overs per side with 2 runs scored for crossing once and a bonus for hitting one of the side walls, likewise behind the keeper. A hefty straight blow would warrant a 4 or 6 depending on the bounce. You could be caught of the side walls and penalised for balls pitched wide of the strip. And if you're out you're out!

Radcliffe won the toss and elected to bat as Devenney, Blacklock, Cox, Phoenix, Hefter and Garlick took to the field with Blacklock being entrusted to keep wicket. Some lusty blows, deft shots and wide deliveries saw the experienced Radcliffe side amass 80-3. Some good fielding saw Blacklock remove the bails 3 times.

Keyworth played well in return reaching 65 for the loss of only one wicket. Devenney (27*) retired leaving Cox and Garlick to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Match 2 saw Keyworth face Bingham and bat first, with the order reversed. Phoenix went early trying for the big 6 but couldn't quite clear the bowlers outstretched arm. Blacklock and Hefter took time to get on the right wavelength - the highlight: Blacklock passing Hefter who stayed firm in his crease, before being sent back and remarkably making it! Blacklock (26*) retired with Hefter (23) falling just - short pushing on in the last over. Some inconsistent bowling left Keyworth on 93-2

Cox took the gloves as Blacklock opened up, and struck with his first delivery - Devenney taking a spectacular one handed stretching catch over his head. Great line and length meant the score was never likely to be troubled. Cox took an excellent diving catch behind the stumps off Phoenix, with Hefter and the returning Blacklock gaining the last wicket of the day as Bingham finished on 42-4.

A well deserved victory for the boys who grew in confidence and adapted very well to the techniques of backing up, tip and run and working the ball neatly behind square.
