Pull the Other One

Week 3: The forward drive and the pull shot. The latter more commonly executed as the Cowlard Cross Batted Cow Corner Club, The Baker Slog. The Tuckwell 3-wood or the Meek Bludgeon.

First step back, across, then smash it as hard as you can!

Pretty much textbook

Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Boss Hog, man.

Boss Hogg's Cricket Academy

The KCC legend that is Mr Chris 'Boss Hogg' Legge relays the finer points of his Sultan of Swing Bowling action to some of Willow Brook's finest, as part of his Level 2 coaching Award.

As one half of the KCC Junior 'Laurel and Hardy' Youth Management Duo, the theory has been completed and now onto the 6 hour practical sessions before the final assessment at Trent Bridge.

The British Geological Survey have been kind enough to lend the venue whereby the willing pupils, and some of the Millers Stars for the future, have been benefitting from The Boss' skill and technical nouse.

Number 1: Always important - The Set up!

Leggey's Level 2 Coaching Award is the first step in the re-introduction of Junior Cricket to Keyworth, since the likes of Baker, Hepburn and Ball turned out in the mid 80's as the rising stars of the future.

A select squad of 14 local 11 and 12 year olds have been invited and agreed to be part of the new KCC Under 12's hard Ball team for 2009 and part of a 5 year plan to develop the next wave of Keyworth talent.

Building on the success of some Kwik cricket initiatives in 2008 and armed with a sizeable grant from the County Council, a 12 week nets session will begin the journey on the 7th of February.

The team have been accepted into the Notts Youth Cricket League Under 12's pairs league and 11 aside league with the established likes of Caythorpe, Ellerslie, Gedling Colliery, Kimberley, Radcliffe, Unity, West Bridgford and Wollaton. And have also entered a cup competition.

Also the boys are to be involved in an Under 13's cup competiton in the Newark and District League as well as a mixture of friendlies to complete a quota of roughly 2 matches a week from May through to the start of August.

All in all a busy yet thoroughly exciting time. Watch this space.

I'm not being funny but whoever's got that ball better return it in 5 seconds...
