January Update

Welcome to the first Club Newsletter of the new season. We agreed at the Club AGM to keep everyone more up-to-date with all the latest news on and off the field.

Before Christmas we had a great turn out at the Casino for the End of Season Awards. It was like being at the Oscar’s with Leggy’s tearful acceptance speech for 2nd team player of the year.
We then had a sell out at the Annual Club Meeting, more than 20 members turned out, when we’ve struggled to fill a phonebox in previous years. There was lots of interest in signing up to help with club activities and some of the ideas you’ll see below.

Winter Nets are well underway with numbers rising by the week. Warm up for the new season on Tuesday nights from 9-10 inside the Radcliffe Road stand at Trent Bridge. We have two nets booked every week, so there’s plenty of space for everyone to get in the groove.

We’re always looking to recruit new players and negotiations have started with a few familiar faces. In the meantime let’s all lookout for friends and workmates to sign up.

Chris Ladd is putting together an exciting programme of Social Events. You can look forward to old favourites like Race Night and Quiz Night. We’re also planning a Curry Evening, a second Golf Day at Rushcliffe Golf Club, and our very own 20-20 game at the end of the season. More details will follow from Laddy over the next few weeks.

As well as being a good laugh, these events also raise valuable club funds. And this year we’re planning some big investments. Let’s hope the First Team gain promotion to Division 1B at the end of the season. In the higher divisions club grounds come under closer scrutiny. With this in mind we’ve already had the League Inspectors at the Field of Dreams. The upshot is that we need to invest in a sightscreen for the bottom end and some kind of pitch cover. We’re hopeful that we can secure a KPFA grant to help with the costs.

We also want to buy a bowling machine. Most people want to make our summer practice sessions more professional. But it currently needs everyone to be bowling. A bowling machine will free people up to do catching practice (not before time!). We have some extra ideas to raise money, including a World Cup sweepstake that Meeky is planning. We really hope that everyone will feel they are getting something back from the support they give to the club.
