District Joy for Healey

Last year's Under 12s talisman and Junior Player of the Year, Ben Healey, had extra reason to celebrate the new season - having been selected for the Under 13 District squad.

Already a permanent fixture in the Legge's XI Sunday side, Ben notched 256 runs off the bat and finished with bowling figures of 49-4-226-14, with a best of 4-1-12-3 during 2009.
Monday's friendly showed good early season promise - 21* setting up an exciting season ahead.

Happy Anniversary!

Tuckers and Leggy returned to Bingham with the Under 13s, a year to the day after the junior dream started, with the boys a foot taller, wiser and more confident...

The lastest KCC accessory, cap, was handed out and mighty fine the boys looked, lets have some names in these ones!

After impressing with his play and persona Greg Mills was unveiled as the new vice-captain, receiving a warm round of recognition from his team mates - a popular decision.

Team meeting with the Boss

With the match being 18 overs and plenty of eager lads in the hutch it was a balance of getting a feel before getting out or retiring. Normington won the toss and sent Tudor and Healey in to open.

Some nice boundaries from Tudor saw hiw get to double figures before being caught in the deep. Healey (21*) carried on from where he left off and hit the first maximum of the season, before retiring. He was shortly followed by Normington (8*) and Neece (6*)as Keyworth were steadily placed at the half way stage 39-1.

Tudor checking out his score.

Cairns and Hennessy elevated the rate with fine boundaries and exceptional running. Told that he only had a ball left before retiring, Cairns (15) went for a big shot and was bowled. No respite as Steiner (13*) came in notching the second maximum of the day, followed by ay another boundary.

Neecey looking relaxed

Hennessy (4) was bowled last ball in a valuable innings, having run at least 10 extras, sometimes with ball not moving a metre from the strikers end. Whippet!

63 runs in the final 9 overs saw three figures amassed, for the loss of 3 wickets 100-3 off 18.

Macca, Hazza and Tom looking on

The screw was applied on a defendable total by Shepherd (2-0-3-2) Brown (2-1-4-1) and Mills (2-0-3-1) and Steiner (2-1-5-1) The top three clean bowled. Behind the stumps, Hennessy was his usual brave self keeping the extras down to a minimum, with the banter in the field good.

The young Bingham 4 set about the bowling, racing to 26 and leaving Bingham with a slight advantage after 9 overs, on 54-2.

The momentum swung in favour of Keyworth as the following 5 overs went for 5 runs with 4 wickets registered. Buckets Newell spearking it in to life with a great catch at mid off from the bowling of Healey. Brown took an excellent caught and bowled before Hennessy pouched a top edge from Mills.

With 10 an over required from the last 4, Neece, Cairns and Tudor bowled a tight line and length as the Bingham innings finished on 79 for 7, leaving KCC with a 21 run victory.

Tremendous effort boys, excellent start.

Radcliffe in the cup, on Thursday, at the Field of Dreams - 5.45 start.

Iggy Gets Runs But 1sts Caught Short

First things first. A massive thank you must go to to Mick White for transforming the square that was vandalised at the end of last season - if only the team would repay your efforts with an equally impressive performance on the hallowed turf!

The firsts faced newly promoted Gedling Colliery II's who were a mix of youth and experience, and this was enough to easily beat a sorry Keyworth side that were missing half of their first choice team. This was no excuse however, as those that did play should have done far better than they did.

The umpires gave strict instructions before the match relating to sledging and the use of choice language, leaving the hosts wondering if the foul mouthed buffoon Steve Rendu would last out the rest of the days play...

Rob Baker is on temporary skipper duty until June when Geoff Tindsley returns from injury. Bobby won the toss on a glorious afternoon and put the visitors into bat. Kitch took an early wicket and the fielding side were on top at drinks (52-1 after 24ovs) despite having dropped a number of chances to make further inroads into the top order. Rocket man Rendu showed "good toes" and bowled well down the hill after his early morning ballet-based warm up appeared to do the trick. The turning point in the innings was the departure of Ian Graham in the 34th over, who, after bowling 10 overs for 24 suddenly had to leave the field to... well let's say he hoped that the toilet roll stock hadn't been depleted too much by the table tennis club over the the winter.

Fortunately Leggey was on hand to sub field, but the visitors capitalised on their wickets in hand and went on to sent 173-9 in their 48 overs with opening bat Rhys Hayes (14yrs) nearly carrying his bat on his way to a steady and patient 61. Fielding point amongst the 9 dropped catches went to Ian Kitchenson who hit the stumps 3 times, affecting one run out. Bowling point to the skipper who took 4-36 off 11.

Jean's tea set the standard as ever, and was plentiful and tasty with the warm cheesy jackets, wraps and onion Bhaji's being the highlights.

With IG in no fit state to opening the innings as planned, Dale Collison and Rob Beake were up first. But in a sorry display, the top order scores read like a batting helpline 2-8-2-8-1-0, with new boy Jamie Vickers, Andy Cowlard, Steve Rendu and Dave Strong all failing to get going. Only the buttock clenched IG made double figures as the home side were all out for 62 in 23 overs. Awful. Things can only get better.

Legge's XI Start Strongly

Leggy's Sunday XI made a winning start to the season beating old friends Colston Bassett by 9 runs.

Pre-match excitement revolved around playing kit. Leggy showed the folly of a pie and Guinness winter diet that had transformed his playing jumper into a supportive corset. Drurs meanwhile was phoning all parts of South Notts in search of a pair of creams to avoid batting in his shorts.

We batted first and lost Chris See-Soar early. Duncan Disorderly swatted a quick 19. Drurs and Marc Bailey took the score beyond 100, the Chairman making 40, while Bails smashed a run a ball 54. Beakey cut his way to an unbeaten 34 and we reached 162 after 40 overs.

Tea was plentiful, the retro highlight being Mr. Kipling's Bakewell Tarts.

In reply Colston looked well set reaching 100 for the loss of just 2 wickets. The home side were helped by more rubbish catching. After the First team's shambles in the field, Bails showed that he would fit in perfectly spilling a simple slip chance. Leggy showed he had picked up a few tips after a substitute appearance the previous day, making a meal of a simple lob to cover. And Billy claimed the sun and his hair was in his eyes after shelling another sitter. Drurs showed that basic hand eye co-ordination was not a thing of the past with two catches.

We bowled tightly and eventually forced break-throughs. Billy caused the dangerman to tread on his stumps and at 130-4 the game was in the balance with 33 needed off 8 overs. This became 140-6 with 3 overs left after a run out and a wicket for Leggy. Youngsters Sam Neece and Ben Healey ripped through the tail-enders taking 2 wickets each to leave the home side all out on 152. Wickets were spread around: Neece 3-24, Healey 2-17, Harrison 2-23, Legge 1-17, Soar 1-21.

A fine win and a fun game.
