Your Timing's Out...
Just one game at the Bingham 6 aside for the Under 11s this week, so an early finish and back for the Cup Final... Or turn up at 1.50 to find you are last game on at 3.50... Still, 5 lads, and an indoor practice area for plenty of tip and run or smash it as hard as you can.
Wollaton were the opponents for Rock, Blacklock, Devenney, Cox and Phoenix. Rock lost the toss as Keyworth were inserted. Devenney and Cox were hoping for better fortunes than the 2 weeks previous, and were forced to play straight for the opening 3 overs. 21-0.
With Tuckwell eyeing a sizeable total, and plenty of strokemakers to come, the openers cut loose. Devenney hit a tasty maximum and smart running saw the scoreboard accelerate.
Devenney (26*) retired with 2 overs to go which brought the scampering Blacklock to the crease. A couple of 'Carry on Keyworth' moments were insignificant comapred to some fine stroke making. Cox (24*) and Blacklock (9*) saw KCC through to a defendable 75-0 off 7.
The Wollaton openers set about the response and were on top in the opening exchanges, despite a smart run out by Cox of the bowling of Blacklock. Cox provided another stumping in the 3rd over after quick work by Rock.
Phoenix bowled an excellent over, and despite seeing the ball hit back past him, reacted quickest to whip the bails off. The batsman thought a boundary had been registered, however it had hit the side wall before reaching the back and the ball remained live, as the Wollaton 3 and 4 were having a chat halfway down the track.
A series of stumping opportunities were squandered but Blacklock caught easily off the penultimate over of Devenney.
Blacklock was handed the final over with 9 required. 3 of the first delivery was followed by 2 dots and another 3. 4 off 2. The penultimate delivery caught the edge of the carpet and whistled past the despairing dive of Cox behind the stumps, as Wollaton achieved the target with a ball to spare.
Still, great credit to the boys and spectators for the extended afternoon entertainment!
2 tough ones to finish. Next week, 7th March, 2.20pm (definitely) against Notts and Arnold. 21st against Radcliffe.
