H D 'Derek' Gill
In memory of century maker DEREK GILL
It is with sadness that we have learnt of the passing of H D ‘Derek’ Gill, one of our Vice Presidents, on Wednesday 8 September. He was a regular supporter at home matches in recent seasons and always very interested in both the history and the current affairs of the club.
In 1947 against Stamford Hall CC, Derek became only the fifth batsman since 1815 when cricket was first played in Keyworth, to record a century – an undefeated 101 not out.
The Gill Family has a long association with the club. Derek’s father Frank played from 1929 to 1940, was Secretary 1932-47, Chairman 1947-50 then President 1958-60. His mother was a regular scorer and his brothers Basil and David also played after the Second World War.
We await news of when the funeral will take place and our thoughts are with family and friends.
